Previs
Previs is a process of visualizing a scene before getting to the floors to create it. It is like creating a draft version of a scene where it can be revised multiple times before settling to that masterful shot. Previs is based on real time pipeline and so it enables filmmakers to experiment with staging, art direction, lighting and camera movements. This helps production houses save big on its budgets while also giving creative freedom to filmmakers.
Techvis
Techvis is the process of involving the real-world equipment into the virtual assets for the purpose of validating decisions taken during Previs like lens choices, camera placement and camera moves in order to avoid the risk of physically implausible virtual choices. This process helps get all technicians on the same page with respect to choices, timings, VFX elements etc., before getting to the floor.
Postvis
Postvis is a process of integrating the live action footage of multiple shots and virtual sets with CGI elements. During current practice of normal green screen production, the shoot is completed and then to set the kind of visuals that the filmmaker wants to show gets determined only after a couple of months of work. Postvis helps in mitigating this and determining how the visuals are going to turn out, even before going to the VFX studio, while also helping immensely at the edit stage to fix timelines and streamline workflows.
